Sen. Vivian Figures, D-Mobile, says women are not getting fair representation on legislative committees, The Decatur Daily reports.

Figures said there are no women on seven of the 20 standing committees in the Lege.

Apparently Figures is making some headway. Derek Trotter, spokesman for Sen. Del Marsh, R-Anniston, called The Anniston Star last week to point out a recent change to Marsh's proposal to reform the Alabama Constitution of 1901.

Marsh had proposed a 16-member committee to reform the constitution.

Figures proposed an amendment that would require that the committee “racial, gender, geographic, urban/rural, and economic diversity of the state.”

The measure passed the Senate 17-9.
