During the general election earlier this month, Hughes received 23,488 votes compared to 8,972 votes received by his Democrat challenger Eddie Ingram. During Hughes’ campaign, he talked about some goals and plans he hoped to accomplish if elected to his second term of office.

HUGHES’ PROMISES:
-the design and building of an additional pod at the Houston County Jail. Hughes also mentioned the issue when he released his candidate announcement earlier this year, saying he has overseen a county jail that’s frequently over capacity. He said in the announcement an addition to the jail was in the planning stages.
- the construction of a weapons range and training facility for the department.
- a plan to partner with Troy University Dothan to implement a supervisory and management level certification program for law enforcement personnel.
